Abstract

Television is the main source of general information and owes its prominence, to a large extent, to the impact of the image. But the visual potential becomes an obstacle to information about certain issues, such as climate change (CC), which are not likely to be associated with specific images. This study, both quantitative and qualitative, takes as a study sample the information about CC broadcast in the news programmes of five Spanish television channels during the celebration of the climate summit in South Africa. The difficulty of illustrating CC with images is one of the reasons why an issue of such importance does not occupy its rightful place on the agenda of television channels.
