Abstract
We want to present three examples of social-films (Recordações da Casa Amarela, A Comédia de Deus and As Bodas de Deus) where the filmmaker presents us a reflection about his urban world, under the effigy of excess and voyeurism, through a character that fails throughout the trilogy to play different social roles. In the portrayal of lies a deep knowledge of society and its facets. João César Monteiro’s movies, therefore, can be see as a truly sociological analysis of Lisbon's reality from that age.
