PRAXIS, IDEOLOGY AND POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY IN AESTHETIC THEORY OF ADOLFO SÁNCHEZ VAZQUEZ

Abstract

Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez (1915-2011), a Spanish thinker exiled in Mexico after the Spanish Civil War, was also one of the most outstanding Hispanic interpreters of Karl Marx’s philosophy. Sánchez Vázquez’s discussion papers about Aesthetic theory excel amidst all the rest of his numerous studies devoted to Marxist philosophy. From the Marxist concept of praxis, Sánchez Vázquez analyzes the complex relationships between Art, Society and Politics, by means of the study of contemporary phenomena like the emancipatory capacity of Art, the ideological function of Art, or the bonding links amongst Capitalism and Art
