This article aims to offer a conceptual approach to impatience, gathering the sketches various authors have made about it to characterize its regime of preferences and temporality. Through it, the agent opts for early action over late action due to his inability to wait. At the same time, James Joyce's story "A Mother" exemplifies some of these characteristics: its protagonist's frustration with the disorganization of a cultural society leads her to demand early payment for her services. However, this reveals some problems that lead to a review of the conditions necessary to define impatience.
