POLITICAL ECONOMY AND BIOPOWER. FOUCAULT IN RIO DE JANEIRO, 1973-1974.

Abstract

This paper presents the features of the first expression of a discourse aboutbiopower, which Foucault made between 1973 and 1974 at the conferences in Rio de Janeiro. The scrutiny of these conferences shows how biopolitics has a relationship that is inseparable from the capitalism development: the reproduction of the labourpower, the development of health management techniques and finally the birth of the healthcare market. In this way, conferences are linked with what will be presented in subsequent courses of the College of France
