Deleitando enseña. This expression coined by the emblemist Diego Saavedra Fajardo perfectly summarizes the pedagogical desire of this literary genre that emerged in Augsburg in 1531 thanks to Andrea Alciato's Emblematum Liber. In Andalusia, emblematic literature made an appearance thanks to two Jesuit authors: Juan Francisco Villava from Jaén and his work Empresas espirituales y morales (Baeza, 1613) and Sevillian Lorenzo Ortiz, with his book Memory, Understanding and Will (Seville, 1677). Until now, studies on Andalusian emblematic literature proposed Villava as the only emblemist, however, it is my intention to include Ortiz in this repertoire as a full-fledged author.
