Resumo

This essay focuses on the role that the theme of the war waged by the citizens
plays in the tyrant Hiero’s regret for his lost status as a citizen. By invoking the
military commitment that citizens offer to the city when it is engaged in a common war, Hiero underlines those aspects of being a citizen that he misses the most: sharing in the joys of victory, taking part in collective discussions when the community decides to go to war for a common advantage, the protection of the laws afforded to the citizens defending their city, the honor that victory over the enemy brings to the entire community of citizens.

Elisabetta Poddighe, Università degli Studi di Cagliari

Elisabetta Poddighe enseña Historia griega, Historia del pensamiento político antiguo e Historia de instituciones políticas griegas en la Facultad de Humanidades de la Universidad de Cagliari. Se ocupó de la historia de la democracia ateniense en la época clásica, y hasta el alto helenismo, y de la reflexión teórica antigua sobre las instituciones atenienses. Es autora del volumen Aristóteles, Atenas y la metamorfosis de la idea democrática, publicado en Roma en 2014 con la editorial Carocci, y de Synoran. Estudios sobre el pensamiento político e histórico de Aristóteles (que se publicará en 2019 para el editor Franco Angeli). Para la sección aristotélica, participa al Projecto "Inventar el pasado / construir la historia: usos y apropiaciones antiguos y modernos del pasado de los griegos", en el subprograma de generación de conocimiento, resolución del 17 de junio, BOE del 23 de junio de 2015 "(Investigador principal: prof. Laura Sancho Rocher, Universidad de Zaragoza).
