Blasts of Vico in Spanish XIX th Century Daily Press (1840-1874)

Abstract

This paper studies the reception of Vico in the Spanish daily press between 1840 and 1868. In the context of the dialectic between traditionalists and liberals, the “New Science” is synonymous with the “Philosophy of History” and Vico is seen a genius misunderstood in his time, but happily discovered for the projection of the “Century of Progress”. This work is another addendum to El espejo de la época. Capítulos sobre G. Vico en la cultura hispánica (Naples, 2007), and is an very much expanded version (double extension) of the homonymous article in Rocinante.
