Challenges and responses of the municipality of Cartegena de Indias in the 17th century

Abstract

The municipal council had to struggle against natural disasters, the superior government of the province and its meaner income. By mid-century four problems could not wait any longer: the city council lodging, the jail, the slaughter house and a hospital for lepers.
