Thinking skills development on 9-year-old children through the philosophical novel Kio and Gus of the Philosophy for Children program

Abstract

This paper analyzes the influence of implementing the Philosophy for Children Program (P4C) on the development of thinking skills in 12 fourth-grade primary education students at Jesús Jiménez Zamora School in Cartago, Costa Rica. The study employed philosophical didactic designs, the use of the philosophical novel Kio and Gus and the Teacher's Manual. The research problem is framed within the teaching and didactic methods for philosophical learning and the development of thinking skills. The research confirms that implementing the P4C program in the fourth year of basic education has a positive impact on the development of cognitive thinking skills and extends to the social and community aspects of research.
