The garbage can of history: between Benjamin and Adorno

Abstract

Walter Benjamin proposes, to combat historicism, a new working method: materialist montage based on the constructivist principle. With it, Marxist dialectical materialism leaves behind the time-progress model and assumes messianic temporality. This new understanding of dialectics will distance him from some of the members of the Institute for Social Research, especially from his friend Adorno.
