About the Journal

Focus and scope

Araucaria is a multidisciplinary journal focused on the social sciences and the humanities, which publishes original and unpublished articles in accordance with the various current methodological traditions and has an object of prevalent interest in Ibero-American society and history, albeit shared with that raised by the major problems of the international community, democracy and peace. Araucaria is a journal published by the University of Seville, with a quarterly periodicity since 2020 and free access, whose first issue appeared in June 1999. Its official languages are Spanish, Portuguese and English.

Ethical commitment

Araucaria, as a journal of international excellence, is inspired by the “Principal practices” document of the Publications Ethics Committee (COPE) addressed to both authors and reviewers and editors.

Authors' Commitments

Originality and plagiarism: The authors of manuscripts sent to Araucaria guarantee that the work is original, that it does not contain parts of other authors or other fragments of works already published by the authors. In addition, they confirm the veracity of the data, that is, that the empirical data have not been altered to verify hypotheses.

Multiple and / or repetitive publications: The author must not publish articles in which the same results are repeated in more than one scientific journal. The simultaneous proposal of the same contribution to multiple scientific journals is considered ethically incorrect and reprehensible.

List of sources: The author must always provide the correct indication of the sources and contributions mentioned in the article.

Authorship: Regarding the authorship of the manuscript, the authors guarantee the inclusion of those people who have made a significant scientific and intellectual contribution in the conceptualization and planning of the work as well as in the interpretation of the results and in the writing of the same. At the same time, the authors have been ranked according to their level of responsibility and involvement.

Conflict of interest and disclosure: All authors are obliged to explicitly declare that there are no conflicts of interest that may have influenced the results obtained or the proposed interpretations. Authors should also indicate any funding from agencies and / or projects from which the research article arises.

Errors in published articles: When an author identifies an important error or inaccuracy in his article, he must immediately inform the editors of the journal and provide them with all the necessary information to list the pertinent corrections at the bottom of the same article.

Responsibility: all authors accept responsibility for what has been written. The authors also undertake to carry out a review of the most current and relevant scientific literature on the subject analyzed, bearing in mind the different streams of knowledge in a plural way.

Reviewers Commitments

Contribution to editorial decision: Peer review is a procedure that helps editors to make decisions about proposed articles and also allows the author to improve the contribution submitted for publication. The reviewers are committed to conducting a critical, honest, constructive and unbiased review of both the scientific quality and the literary quality of the writing in the field of their knowledge and skills.

Respect of time: The reviewer who does not feel competent in the subject to be reviewed or who cannot finish the evaluation in the scheduled time will notify the editors immediately. The reviewers undertake to evaluate the works in the shortest time possible to respect the deadlines, since, out of respect for the authors, in Araucaria the custody limits of the manuscripts on hold are limited.

Confidentiality: Each assigned manuscript must be considered confidential. Therefore, these texts should not be discussed with other people without the express consent of the editors.

Objectivity: Peer review will be done objectively. No personal judgment about the authors of the contributions is considered adequate. Reviewers are required to give sufficient reasons for their ratings. Reviewers will deliver a critical report with appropriate references, especially if it is proposed that the work be rejected. When it falls under their knowledge, they will communicate to the editors the bad practices in which the evaluated article is involved.

Conflict of interest and disclosure: Confidential information or information obtained during the peer review process should be considered confidential and cannot be used for personal purposes. Reviewers will only review a manuscript if there are no conflicts of interest.

Publishers Commitments

Publication decision: the editors will guarantee the selection of qualified reviewers to issue a critical appraisal of the work with the least possible bias, after having made sure, through the application of the “Turnitin” anti-plagiarism system, that the articles to be evaluated have not been plagiarized.

Honesty: the editors evaluate articles submitted for publication only on the basis of the scientific merit of the contents, without discrimination of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, nationality or political opinion of the authors.

Confidentiality: the editors and members of the working group undertake not to disclose the information regarding the articles submitted for publication to anyone other than authors, reviewers and editors. The editors and the Editorial Board are committed to the confidentiality of the manuscripts, their authors and reviewers, so that anonymity preserves the intellectual integrity of the entire process.

Conflict of interest and disclosure: the editors undertake not to use the contents of the articles submitted for publication in their research without the written consent of the author.

Respect of time: the editors are fully responsible for meeting the time limits for reviews and publication of accepted papers, to ensure rapid dissemination of their results. They commit themselves reliably to comply with the published times (maximum of 30 days in the estimation / rejection from the reception of the manuscript in the Review Platform) and maximum 150 days from the beginning of the scientific review process by experts). Likewise, the works will not remain accepted without being published in infinite waiting lists beyond the right time for their edition in the next issue. Waiting list job pools will be avoided.
