Utopia is conscious sleep. We treat sleep as a metaphor: that is, as an illusion, a desire, a suspicion that first presents itself in the dreamlike, that lives on in our minds and sometimes directs the social life of people. There were social changes that began as utopias. Today's civilisational crisis revitalizes utopian thinking as a strategy and the right to aspire to another society
