Abstract
On March 24 of 1609, Doña Maria de Barros and Montalvo signed in Cartagena de Indias minutes of the founding of the Convento de Santa Teresa, though the institution was already in operation some years earlier. This article discusses the lineage of the founder of the convent, as the Barros family one of the most influential city in the XVI and XVII, and the very act of foundation of the Convent and the means of funding.
