The social ascent of the colonial elite in novohispana: a lioness in Guanajuato

Abstract

This article uses the prosopographic study of Agustin de la Torre of Leon (Mexico) to investigate one modelo f social Accent and integration into the colonial elite. It presents a case study of the social values of Spanish America and explores a few of the methods of obtaining the prestige, wealth, and power that permitted individuals who had nothing to thrive in the complex colonial society.
