Abstract

This article analyses the economic project proposed by Juan Bezares, Spanish trader in Lima, to the opening of a road in the oriental foothills of the Andes in the late 18th century. It is noticed how certain colonial agents had an interest in controlling the occupation and colonization of the region despite its relative marginality.
