Abstract
This paper deals whith the reluctant atitude of the Crown and the Society of Jesus in view of the requests made by the city of La Havana in order to obtain the due licences for the foundation of a Jesuit college in the XVII century, meanwhile, the Bishops of Cuba considered this foundation rather important to spread the evangelization in the region as well as to strengthen the doctrinal action, especially among the african-slaved population.
