THE MILITIA ORGANIZATION IN BUENOS AIRES (1810-1820): CREATION, RECRUITMENT AND OFFICER’S ELECTION

Abstract

This article examines the creation and the dynamic of the militias’ recruitment in the city of Buenos Aires, during the first revolutionary decade. For that purpose, governmental, municipal orders and administrative and court records are analyzed. The checked and selected documentation shows a wider militia’s realm than it was believed, a continuity of the mobilization process and the existence of some conflicts between militiamen and the authorities.
