Abstract
This article develops an analysis of the housing communities leaded by women in Uruguay during the eighteen century. It addresses aspects such as the marital status, geographical origin or ethnic group of the females, as well as the composition of the household they managed. This information comes from Aldecoa Register. The aim of this study is to underline the presence of women who were capable to cope their homes with the means that were available, regardless of the company of a husband.
