Abstract

From the sixteenth century until 1831 the nomadic Plains Indians west of the Río de la Plata and the Parana River resisted the advance of three fronts of colonial society. However they were defeated early. This seems due to the difficulty of both providing themselves with horses and keeping safe their women and children.
