Abstract

This article studies the complex political relationship between the provinces and the Argentine national state in one of the most tense moments of their relationship. In late 1860 and early 1861 the province of Corrientes was the most representative in the struggle to defend their federal rights in the US Congress, holding the legality of their legislators representative despite the demands of amendment proposals by the national state. This political conflict will reach significant proportions, culminating with a military confrontation as was the battle of Pavón.
