Abstract
The main objective of this research is to analyze the families that allocated children to life in religion. And to question about what motivated them “to give children to the Church?” What religious, social and economic interests existed behind of the clergyman formation? And about the priests is interesting to know the role they played when they were put in the curacy; and what did of those who were not in the curacy for living? The case study the family Gómez Portugal was taken from Santa Maria de los Lagos, Nueva Galicia, because with its analysis we pretend to reflect how the local elites drew as strategic to form clergyman, planning that was accompanied by a sincerely religious fervor, linked to the social, economic and politic interest. The detailed study of a family with life stories like clergyman Gómez Portugal, it is a little proof of this behavior.
