Abstract

Havana’s quintas de salud (1894-1930) private hospitals of Spanish immigrants’ mutual benefit societies, were projects of a nationalist and regionalist spirit, making visible these immigrants’ rice to power. This critical examination of their architecture reveals that its fusion of the pavilion typology with the morphology of the Casa Quinta of El Cerro produced a new, locally integrated architectural type of hospital.
