Abstract

The aim of this article is to reflect upon the reasons that made the Jesuit Missionaries to raise in Chiloe chaples without any ornamentation such as sculptures, burdening themselves to carry theese on the ships and crafts that used for transport. This study will also deal with the influence this practice had upon the development of local sculpture since the expulsion of members of the Society of Jesus.
