Abstract
Historia militar, civil y sagrada del Reino de Chile of the Chilean Jesuit Miguel de Olivares, written only a few years before the expulsion of the order from the American territories and published almost a century later, contains many negative descriptions of the communities Mapuche, among those who have been missionaries for a long time, as well as evangelization proposals different from the official projects of their order. This "independence of judgment" of the Jesuit can be considered an example of the opinion that the Mapuche had many Chilean Criollos in the mid-eighteenth century
