ABSTRACT: This article analyzes, through unpublished notarial documentation, the case of the Moorish women who managed to avoid their expulsion from the Kingdom of Granada in 1584, by remaining as spinners or minors in administration. The analysis is carried out through the example of the city of Guadix. The main conclusion of the study is that this case exemplifies one of the causes of the so-called Moorish problem: the contradiction between the integration-acculturation measures imposed on the Moriscos and the economic interests of the Castilian elites and the fiscal interests of the Crown.
