The Faith of Andalusians and Mudejares Through the "Hajj"

The pilgrimage to Mecca constitutes the fifth pillar (or obligation) of Islam, which makes it an event of great importance in the experience of the Islamic faith. In this dissertation we intend to analyse how two Muslims, an Almohad and a Mudejar lived it, and thus deepen the question of the Islamic identity of the Mudejar communities that lived their faith in a minority in the face of the dominant expression of Andalusian Islam. For that purpose we will use the travel stories (rihla) of two pilgrims who represent each of these realities, Ibn Yubayr from Valencia and Omar Patún from Avila.
