Resumen

RESUMEN: El presente artículo busca examinar los fundamentos de la soberanía en el pensamiento político de Jacobo VI de Escocia y su vínculo con el surgimiento del campo de lo político en el occidente europeo. Para ello se tendrán en cuenta su posicionamiento frente al tiranicidio y su postura frente al crimen de brujería. Tomando como referencia tres de sus tratados, se examinarán sus teorizaciones sobre los orígenes del orden político-institucional. Además de demostrar la génesis teológica de su postura, se buscará desentrañar los argumentos a partir de los cuáles buscó construir su legitimidad como monarca absoluto y la vinculación de aquellos con el contexto histórico inmediato de su producción.

ABSTRACT: This paper aims to examine the foundations of sovereignty in James VI of Scotland´s political thought, as well as its relation with the birth of the political in Western Europe. The study will consider his stance on tyrannicide and witchcraft. By analyzing the king´s treatises, the article will focus on his theorizations about the origins of the political and the institutional order. Besides demonstrating the theological genesis of his stance, the next pages will aim to unravel the ideas by which the Stuart attempted to build his legitimacy as an absolute sovereign, as well as the relation with their immediate historical context.
