Summary: This article analyzes India's interaction with Southeast Asia and its relationship with ASEAN from the end of the Cold War to the present. At the political level, it examines the foundations and objectives of India in its approach to ASEAN. Second, it proceeds to analyze the trade relations between India and ASEAN, paying particular attention to the signing of the ASEAN–India Free Trade Area (AIFTA) signed in 2009, which entered into force in 2010. Thirdly, it proceeds to study the growing interaction in secur India, ASEAN, Southeast Asia, Geopolitics.Abstract
This article analyzes India's interaction with Southeast Asia and its relationship with ASEAN from the end of the Cold War to the present. At the political level, it examines the foundations and objectives of India in its approach to ASEAN. Second, it proceeds to analyze the trade relations between India and ASEAN, paying particular attention to the signing of the ASEAN–India Free Trade Area (AIFTA) signed in 2009, which entered into force in 2010. Thirdly, it proceeds to study the growing interaction in security and defense not only with ASEAN but also with key countries in the region's security architecture such as Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines or Vietnam and the consequences derived from this cooperation in their strategic competition with China.
