Abstract

James Hankins is one of the most important specialists in the history of Renaissance humanists' political thought. His book on Renaissance Platonism is a mandatory reference for studies on the time, as well as his articles on Leonardo Bruni and “civic humanism.” In this recent book, he brings together the work of many years. It consists of twenty-one chapters and three appendices. The first two are translations of Latin texts into English. The first of these is a passage from Petrarch's De vita solitaria. The second is a passage from the Bruni's History and the third is a Francesco Patrizi's list of editions.
