Resumen

Entre la edición de los volúmenes tercero y cuarto de La Historia de Inglaterra, la historiadora y filósofa Catharine Macaulay Graham publica, en 1767, un texto breve que rechaza los argumentos a favor de la monarquía absoluta contenidos en De Cive, promoviendo una forma democrática de gobierno basada en la igualdad y la libertad. Pese a tener un tono burlesco e irrespetuoso hacia Hobbes, el escrito alcanza gran notoriedad y contribuye a convertir a la autora en una mujer influyente y reconocida dentro de los círculos radicales franceses, ingleses y en el movimiento por la independencia de las colonias de Norteamérica.
