Este quizás sea el más interesante de todos los estudios de Erich Auerbach sobre Vico, inédito hasta ahora en español, que se ofrece en la traducción realizada por Manuel Barrios Casares, autor también de la Presentación. Texto del periodo americano de Auerbach, leído en la American Society for Aesthetics, en Cambridge (MA) el 01/09/1948, y publicado en el nº 8 del año siguiente en Journal of Aesthetic and Art Criticism. En este texto, Auerbach presenta a Vico como el promotor de un sentido integrador de “filología” solidario de una filosofía de la cultura, y pilar del historicismo estético del s. XVIII (afín a Herder).

Abstract:

This may be the most interesting study on Vico that Auerbach ever wrote. Previously unpublished in spanish, it is here translated and introduced by Manuel Barrios Casares. This work belongs to the american period of Erich Auerbach. It was read before the American Society for Aesthetics in Cambridge (MA) on January 1st 1948 and then published the following year in the Journal of Aesthetic and Art Criticism (no. 8). It presents Vico as the promoter of a integrating sense of “philology”, parallel to a philosophy of culture, and a pillar of the aesthetic historicism of the s. XVIIIth Century (akin to Herder).
