Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explore the natural resources, especially Brazil wood, in the territory of Portuguese America, more precisely in the captaincy of Rio de Janeiro in the first four decades of the Iberian Union. It will seek to analyze the rules established by the Crown for the rational use of the environment and also the conflicts and illegal activities that involved the issue.
