Abstract
The eighteenth century was a period of intense political, social and economic changes for Spain and its colonies, the foundation of the Royal Corps of Military Engineers standing out among them. Thanks to its creation, the first group of professional Spanish engineers, whose technical training helped to improve the defense of the Spanish colonies territory, began its process of configuration. Among the members of this contingent, the Andalusian Don Joaquín del Pino y Rozas is an excellent example and paradigm of the Spanish military engineering’s first steps.
