Abstract

The present text analyzes the cult and devotion to the Virgin of Carmen and her Holy Scapular that the Discalced Carmelites spread in the New Spain between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, from the image of purgatory. As a result of the discovery of the first version of the chronicle Tesoro Escondido en el Monte Carmelo Mexicano, I present for first time in this work unpublished material on the subject.
