Abstract

This article concerns the cultural practice of human sacrifice, starting from what it is expressed in Mayan codices. We focus on the iconographic and semiotic analysis of the Lord of human sacrifice and war, named Jun Lajun Talaan. The result of this work allows the reader to understand the human sacrifice not only as a religious phenomenon but also as a rite which joins several aspects of Mesoamerica during the Postclassic horizon.
