Abstract

This work studies the first secular parishes of indians in the archbishopric of Mexico, in the era of the government of Fray Alonso de Montúfar, characterized by a confrontation with the friars over the supremacy of the Church. Additionally, those parishes of thousands of indians are analyzed: without an effective internal organization or sufficient ministries, but with the objective of curbing the power of the friars in the center of New Spain.
