The economic fate of Ibero-America: Discussions inside Revista de Occidente

The development of economic thinking, based on the Theory of Dependency, is a central theme all along the 60’s and 70’s of the XX century, primarily on the American continent. Cultural magazines have a role in such development, adding to the academic discussions from the sidelines of formal scientific circuits. Revista de Occidente participates in this development through the efforts of crucial authors on this theme, in which this article focuses on the interventions of Jesús Pedro Arrarte and José Luis Sampedro, without casting aside the efforts of authors of the likes of Milton Friedman and Celso Furtado. These authors are contextualized within the academic development of this time.
