Abstract
RESUMEN: En este trabajo pretendemos analizar las causas y el desarrollo del conflicto y pleito iniciado en el siglo XVI entre el duque de Medinaceli y los vecinos su villa de El Puerto de Santa María, un importante enclave comercial de la Andalucía Atlántica, que acabará en la firma de una concordia en 1628. Para ello, analizaremos previamente los procesos que llevaron a la conformación de las rentas señoriales, para posteriormente estudiar los diferentes elementos que constituían el motivo de conflicto: el control del poder concejil, la posesión de la tierra y la imposición de derechos y gravámenes, analizando los argumentos utilizados por ambas partes para defender su posición.
ABSTRACT: In this work we pretend to analyze the causes and the development of the conflict initiated in the 16th century between the Duke of Medinaceli and the neighbors of his town of El Puerto de Santa Maria, an important commercial place of Atlantic Andalusia, that will end in 1628 by the signing of a concord. For this, we analyze at first the processes that led to the formation of the nobility taxes, and after we study the different elements that constituted the cause of conflict: the control of council power, the possession of the land and the imposition of duties and taxes, analyzing the arguments used by the lord and the neighbors to defend their position.
