ABSTRACT: Through the study of the professional guilds we can form a better picture of society during the Ancien Régime. In order to further that study this paper looks at the ordinances and the records of the meetings of the guild of notaries public. In this way, we can see how the guild functioned and who were those who held positions of responsibility.
