ABSTRACT: The Cistercian Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo in Santiponce, Seville, was founded by Guzmán el Bueno at the beginning of the 14th century as the burial site for himself and his lineage. In 1431, the Earl of Niebla, Enrique de Guzmán, patron of the monastery, transferred the monastery and all of its property to the Order of San Jerónimo. Based mainly on the study of documents proceeding from the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo and from the ducal archives of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, this paper examines the origin of the monastery, its properties, its income, and the administration of the domain. The conclusion contains, in the form of appendix, data from the Record of Holdings (Libro de Protocolo) of the monastery.
