ABSTRACT: Francisco Rodríguez Martín (Osuna, 1855 - Madrid, 1943), as director of the National Library, devoted much of his research to compiling information related to the Duchy of Osuna in Andalusia between the 15th and 17th centuries and to the biography of Miguel de Cervantes and Don Quixote. Until relatively recently, his personal archive (now in the library of the CSIC in Madrid) contained many original and unpublished documents relating to Gutierre de Cárdenas and the origins of his lordships in Maqueda, Torrijos, Elche, Crevillente, etc. This paper studies the origin and source of these documents and their contents.
