ABSTRACT: This paper analyses the primogeniture created by Juana Carrillo in favour of her grandson García Venegas, and in particular the problems that arose when he sold part of the entailed estate (properties in Nínchez and Chozas) to Día Sánchez de Quesada, Lord of Garciez and Santo Tomé, in Jaén. Through the study of the long, complex lawsuits that followed, we can see how difficult family relationships were and the economic problems suffered by the former owners of the estate. We are given evidence of the bitter reality of the second sons in one of the most important lineages in Córdoba. During the dispute, doubt was cast on the authenticity of the document relating to the creation of the primogeniture.
