ABSTRACT: Links between women and confraternities in medieval Andalusia were extraordinarily rich, that is, women were present and took part in these institutions, beyond platitudes. These links were related to economic, social and, specially, welfare relations, which were one of the main factors to explain the extraordinary success experimented by confraternities during the end of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period. But there were also links which connected women and confraternities during the afterlife, trough a wide range of religious dispositions present in testaments. For all those reasons, we can deduce that during this period confraternities provided women with some services and established with them some relationships on equal terms than if they were men.
