Simón Pérez, primer escribano del cabildo de la catedral de Oviedo (1262-1287) / Simón Pérez, First Scribe of the Chapter of the Cathedral of Oviedo (1262-1287).
Abstract
ABSTRACT: During the development of the public notariate in Castile, the chapter of San Salvador de Oviedo still authenticated its documents with the traditional means: chirographs and seals. However, by the end of the 13th Century, Simón Pérez started to subscribe his documents as the chapter scribe. These were the first symptoms of the development of the public scribes of the Church of Oviedo, entitled with full fides publica by the beginning of the 14th Century. This paper will study the documentary production of this first scribe, aiming to understand him within the context of the development of the kingdom public notariate.
