La gestión de la fiscalidad como medio de ascenso social en el seno de la comunidad morisca granadina, 1502-1610 / Royal Taxes and Upward Mobility within the Granadan Morisco Community, 1502-1610.
Abstract
ABSTRACT: This paper shows how the royal taxes contributed to create Granada´s Morisco community between 1502 and 1610. Thanks to this fiscal organisation, the Morisco elites had an interesting way for participating in the political power. However, this tax policy also caused social tensions within the Morisco communities. In this occasion a research has been carried out on two not wellknown Morisco families (the Çebtinis and the Camits) which were tax collectors in Granada before 1568 and in Seville since the end of the 16th century, showing how the fiscal policy was one of the main features of the continuity of some elites after and before the war of 1568-1570.
