Abstract

In this paper we aim to show the different kinds of devotions which confraternities practiced in Seville at the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Early Modern period. In order to achieve our purpose we have used confraternities’ rules. These associations were generally composed of laypersons, which means that their documents show how this people felt and lived. We have studied three different aspects: sacraments, the liturgical year and the different types of religious practices and devotions used by people in order to express their devotion to God, the Virgin and the saints.
