Abstract

ABSTRACT: In this paper we address the relationships between the city of Cadiz and the marquisate of Ayamonte in the transition to Modernity. On the one hand, we analyze the origins and formation of the House of Ayamonte, as well as we study the economic and social context of Andalusia at the end of the Middle Ages. On the other hand, this research is based on a case study that allows us to delve into maritime contacts among Cadiz and Ayamonte. The cause of the litigation was the seizure of a shipment of grain by the authorities of Cadiz bound for Ayamonte. The argument between the authorities of Cadiz and the Marquis of Ayamonte was caused by fiscal causes, but also by the need to grain in Cadiz. This document was used to study the course of the maritime conflict and its resolution.
