ABSTRACT: This paper aims to present the reality of a notary public, regulated in Cortes de Valladolid (1312), the first records of which date from the reign of Sancho IV. The notary public of the king’s court had to draw up notarial documents issued by the monarch, but in the years prior to its regulation, the documents do not record such an office. This article attempts to know its origins and functions, and which ones Domingo Jiménez, the first notary public of the royal court, carried out before the Cortes of 1312 regulated his work.
