Abstract

ABSTRACT: Johann Gottlieb Heineccius (1681-1741) was a reference in the Hispanic world of the 18th and 19th centuries and his works, despite his Protestant condition, enjoyed great popularity in this context. Consequently, in 1773, the Court of the Inquisition of Mexico carried out a censorship file on them after a series of previous complaints. This work aims to analyze the proposal of doctrinal censorship of his moral philosophical work, entitled Elementa philosophiae rationalis et moralis (1728), as well as its circulation, especially the editions after this inquisitorial episode. Also, this will allow us to reconstruct the role that moral philosophy had during this period and illustrate the functioning of censorship.
